About Me
I’m James - a guitarist, pedal designer, and guitar tech based in Crawley, West Sussex.
I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years, and most of what I know has come from living with gear for a long time: setting it up, breaking it, modifying it, and learning what actually matters once the novelty wears off.
Hamilton Effects began during paternity leave, when I started designing pedals for fun - not chasing extremes, but refining how gain behaves, how circuits interact, and how pedals feel in musical contexts. The original Twin Boost was the first of those designs, and it opened the door to more focus on sound, judgement, and restraint.
Hamilton Effects is about building tools that encourage interaction and development of your own sound. Pedals that sit well, clean up properly, and become part of a player’s muscle memory rather than something you fight against.
Alongside pedal design, I also take on a limited amount of hands-on guitar and electronics work for players who care about how their gear behaves, including custom work.
